Trademarks in Brazil are filed with each class as a separate application. Once the application is filed, it takes about 8 weeks for publication by the Brazilian Trademark Office that the application is open for opposition by third parties. Currently taking about 14 months to be informed that the application has been granted.

Documents

Required documentation to file a trademark in Brazil comprises of a Power of Attorney and an Affidavit (a declaration of business activity). These can be signed and returned via email without the need for legalization. Additional documents are required to transfer ownership, and require legalisation.
